The Trinidad Dwarf Tiger (Cyriocosmus elegans) is a jewel in miniature — a tiny New World dwarf from Trinidad, Tobago and Venezuela wearing a crisp heart-shaped mark on its abdomen and refined tiger detailing. Despite being under 2", it's active, inquisitive, quick, and often out on display, with semi-arboreal tendencies as it matures. Fast-growing, hardy, and beginner-friendly for anyone with limited space — a big personality in a very small spider.

- Temperature75–82°F (24–28°C) — warm room. No heat lamp; warmth suits this tropical dwarf and drives its fast growth.
- HumidityDamp, around 70–80%, with a water dish and good airflow. A small tropical species — keep the substrate lightly moist so it doesn't desiccate, but ventilate to avoid stagnant air. Overflow a corner rather than heavy misting.
- Adult sizeA true dwarf: adults reach 1.5–2.5 inches across the legs (diagonal leg span). A relatively fast grower — expect visible progress between molts when well fed.
- LifespanFemales roughly 6–8 years; mature males 2–3 years. Short-lived, as dwarfs tend to be.
Enclosure
A small footprint suits this dwarf — a nano or large deli/acrylic cube with both a little floor space and some vertical structure, since it climbs and webs as it matures. A few inches of substrate, a cork anchor, a water dish, and escape-proof ventilation (small spiders find small gaps).
Substrate & water
2–3 inches of lightly damp coco/topsoil with a water dish. It burrows a little and webs semi-arboreally. Keep it moist, not wet; ventilate.
Feeding
A quick, enthusiastic little feeder. Small prey — flightless fruit flies or pinhead crickets for slings, small crickets/dubia for adults; juveniles twice weekly, adults weekly. Fast grower. Remove uneaten prey promptly.
Temperament & defenses
Beginner-friendly but fast — it's a dwarf, so it's quick and can bolt, though it's not defensive and venom is mild. Urticating hairs present. More display-and-observe than handle (far too small and quick). Watch it during maintenance so it doesn't dart out.
